Terms of Use

Effective October 17, 2026

These Terms govern your use of cottagechaletrentals.ca (the “Site”), run by Cottage & Chalet Rentals, a sole proprietorship registered in Ontario, Canada (Business Identification Number 1001781880) (“we”, “us”). By registering or using the Site you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. What the Site is — and what it is not

The Site is an advertising platform. Owners of cottages, chalets and similar properties (“Owners”) publish listings, and travellers (“Guests”) find them and contact Owners directly.

• We do not own, manage, inspect or rent any property.
• We do not take bookings, set prices, negotiate on anyone’s behalf or collect any rent, deposit or other payment between Owners and Guests.
• We are not a real estate brokerage, a travel agent or an agent of any Owner or Guest, and we are not a party to any rental agreement.

Any rental is a contract between the Owner and the Guest only.

2. Who can use the Site

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract. If you register a property, you confirm that you own it or are authorized by the owner to advertise it.

3. Owner responsibilities

If you register or list a property, you agree that:

• the information, photos and prices you give us are accurate, current and not misleading, and you will keep them up to date;
• you have the right to rent the property and to publish the photos and text you provide;
• you hold and will display every registration, licence or permit required where the property is located — for example a valid CITQ registration number in Québec or a municipal short-term rental licence — and you comply with all applicable laws, condominium or association rules, insurance requirements and taxes, including accommodation taxes, GST/HST and QST where they apply;
• you will deal honestly with Guests and respect what you advertise.

For now we cannot accept listings located inside the City of Toronto or the City of Ottawa, and we may limit the provinces in which we accept listings.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of the text, photos and other material you give us (“Your Content”). You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, copy, translate, adapt, format and display Your Content on the Site and to use it to promote your listing and the Site, for as long as your listing is on the Site and for a reasonable time after it is removed. You confirm that Your Content does not infringe anyone’s rights.

If you ask us to import your listing from another website, you confirm you are entitled to do so. We may write or translate descriptions for you; you are responsible for checking them before they are published.

We may refuse, edit for format or remove any listing or content that breaks these Terms or the law, or that we reasonably believe is fraudulent or harmful.

5. Fees

Registration and listing are currently free of charge, and we do not charge any commission on bookings. If we introduce paid plans or optional paid features, we will tell registered Owners by email at least 30 days before any charge applies. You will never be charged without first agreeing to it.

6. Guests and Owners dealing with each other

Guests and Owners are responsible for checking each other, agreeing on the terms of a stay in writing and arranging payment. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of listings, the quality or safety of any property or the conduct of any user. To protect yourself, never send money to someone who refuses a phone call or a written agreement, and be careful with requests to pay by wire transfer, gift cards or cryptocurrency. Please report suspicious listings or messages to info@cottagechaletrentals.ca.

7. Acceptable use

You must not use the Site to publish false, fraudulent, illegal, discriminatory or offensive content; to send spam; to collect other users’ information without consent; to copy the Site or its listings by automated means; or to interfere with the Site’s security or operation.

8. Our content

The Site’s design, logo, text and software belong to us or our licensors. You may not use them without our written permission, except to view and share pages of the Site in the normal way.

9. Disclaimers

The Site is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, we make no warranty that the Site will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any listing is accurate or any property is available or suitable.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from a rental agreement or other dealings between Owners and Guests. Our total liability to you for any claim related to the Site is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and CAD $100. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived, including in Québec.

11. Indemnity

If you are an Owner, you agree to compensate us for claims, losses and reasonable legal costs caused by your listing, Your Content or your breach of these Terms or the law, except where we caused them.

12. Ending your use

You can ask us at any time to remove your registration or listing by writing to info@cottagechaletrentals.ca. We may suspend or remove a listing or registration that breaks these Terms, with notice where reasonable.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version here with a new effective date and, for significant changes, tell registered Owners by email before they take effect. If you keep using the Site after that, the new Terms apply.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If you are a consumer living in another province, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your province, and nothing here prevents you from bringing a claim in the courts where you live when the law allows it.

15. Language

These Terms are available in English and in French (Conditions d’utilisation). You may choose the version you prefer; both have the same meaning.
